Word+Particle Collocation Errors in English-Arabic Translation

A corpus of faulty Arabic Word+Particle collocations was collected from the translation of English texts into Arabic by senior students majoring in translation at the College of Languages and Translation. Errors were clasified into interlanguage and interlangauge Word+Particle collocation errors.  Results showed that the students mistranslated certain particles in Word+Particle collocations, added a particle after an Arabic word that does not require a particle in English or deleted a particle from a collocation that requires use of a particle in English. Findings will be interpreted in the light of a comparison of English and Arabic Word+Particle collocations where 3 cases exist: (i) cases were the Arabic Word+Particle collocations match those of their English equivalents; (ii) cases were no Arabic particle is used after the word whereas a particle is used in English; (iii) cases where an Arabic particle is used after a word but no such particle is used in their Enlgish equivalent.
